ProGrasp is a myo-electric prosthetic hand designed to cater to the trans-radial (below elbow) amputees. In India, majority of the upper limb amputees prefer buying natural looking prosthesis but often reject the same cause of discomfort due to weight & low usability aspects. In order to resolve this we designed an aesthetically acceptable, next generation bionic prosthesis with improved usability. ProGrasp is designed to mimic the form and functioning of a human hand. It has been optimized by a weight reduction making it more acceptable and economical.

Design Benefits :

With deep research, numerous mock-ups, ideation & complex CAD, ProGrasp design solves following challenges :

  • Size : By study of Indian Anthropometric data & clever internal mechanical engineering & robust chassis design, 1st ProGrasp design is close to 75th Percentile Indian Male hand size.

  • Aesthetic : Design like natural hand aesthetics is pursued with study of hand anatomy & physiology like proportions of palm to finger, finger lengths, their usability, gradual changes in finger lengths, thumb contour, palm creases, dorsal  ridges etc.

  • Weight Reduction : With reduction in no. of parts & robust chassis with high strength metal allowed drastic weight reduction, currently close to 450gms.

  • Usability : Grip areas to improve usability is defined based on grip tests. Improvement in finger gripping force is also achieved with fingers aligned similar to natural hand and changes in finger length.
